Sodium Fluoride Case Study #1

Clinical History

the bone scan

12-years old boy with pain in the right leg. PET/CT for assessment.

Findings

The bone scan demonstrates a sclerotic skeletal focus of increased tracer uptake in the metaphysis of the proximal right tibia with extension into the epiphysis.

Physiological increased uptake is present in the growth plates throughout the skeleton.

No other skeletal focus of abnormal increased tracer uptake is detected.

Clinical Impression

The sclerotic skeletal focus of increased tracer concentration in the proximal right tibia is suggestive of a primary bone malignancy. Obsteosarcoma is a consideration. Histological correlation is recommended.

There are no bone metastases detected on the F-18 PET bone scan.
