Clinical History

Case of newly diagnosed thyroid ca for staging with PET/CT.

Findings

Thyroid

A mildly FDG-avid 18mm nodule is noted in the isthmus and adjacent right thyroid lobe (maxSUV 3.5).

No FDG-avid cervical, supraclavicular or mediastinal nodes are noted. The non FDG-avid tiny subcentimeter bilateral level II, left level III jugular/cervical nodes and precarinal node are more in favour of reactive nodes.

A dedicated brain study was not performed. No abnormal FDG avid focus is noted in the cerebral hemispheres or cerebellum.

No FDG-avid focus or nodule is seen in the lungs. No pleural effusion or pericardial effusion is noted.

There are no FDG-avid intra-abdominal or retroperitoneal nodes. No abnormal FDG-avid focus is noted in the liver, spleen, pancreas or adrenal glands.

The bone marrow shows normal physiological distribution of FDG activity.

Clinical Impression

A mildly FDG-avid thyroid nodule is noted.

The non FDG-avid tiny subcentimeter bilateral level II, left level III jugular/cervical nodes and precarinal node are more in favour of reactive nodes.

There are no FDG-avid metastatic foci detected.
